An old boss of mine once told me, “you only get one chance to make a first impression.” While I’m sure he didn’t originate this quote, it has stuck with me throughout the years and has greatly influenced the way I live my life. Since becoming a full time REALTOR, I’ve applied that motto to my career and boy have I been reaping the benefits. First impressions are everything, and the same is true of your home… It only has one shot, one chance, one opportunity… (cue Eminen theme song) LOL! But in all seriousness, your home has one chance to make a first impression on homebuyers, and in this market you cannot afford to not have a professional photographer.

“But Caroline, I’m a REALTOR and I have a camera! There’s no sense in paying someone to take my photos when I can get great shots myself!”

The problem with that statement is, you’re doing a disservice to your clients by taking your own photos. Professional photographs help establish a listing’s first impression. They also work to show clients you care about their home’s overall presentation. For the sake of your listing clients and overall reputation in the business, HIRE A PROFESSIONAL!

“OK Care, you’re being harsh. I can take a picture just as a professional can take a picture.”

Wrong again! You can’t! Without having professional experience or an established editing style, your photographs will vary from listing to listing. For my seller’s photographs, it’s all about setting the tone. I want all of my listings to have the same look; the same vibe, if you will. This helps establish my footprint as a professional listing agent and hopefully allows viewers to know it’s my listing before scrolling down to see my name.

Is your home currently for sale? Are you happy with how it’s presented online? If not- contact your listing agent and talk to them about the importance of professional listing photos!
